CHSC 2000 Applied Epidemiology and Public Health 3 cr
This course offers a foundational understanding of the principles and methods used to study the distribution and determinants of health and disease in populations. Students will learn to analyze patterns of illness, assess risk factors, and interpret epidemiological data to inform public health decisions. Emphasis is placed on applying epidemiological thinking to community and global health challenges. Priority for registration will be given to students in the College of Community and Global Health and Rady Faculty of Health Sciences
CHSC 3002 Addictions in the Family 3 cr
This course will provide an overview of alcohol/substance use and gambling in Canada, including information on theories, risk and protective factors, pharmacological principles, and the impact of addictions on individuals, families, and communities. Prevention, intervention, and treatment issues will also be addressed. Issues related to age, gender, culture, socioeconomic status, and sexual orientation will also be considered throughout the course. May not be held with PSYC 4492 or SWRK 4254 or FMLY 3470 when titled Addictions in the Family.

CHSC 3004 Decolonizing Perspectives in Indigenous Health 3 cr
This course explores the impact of colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous health outcomes in Canada, emphasizing the importance of decolonization in promoting health equity. A critical examination of the key determinants of health for Indigenous peoples, including intergenerational trauma, and cultural safety in healthcare settings. The role of Indigenous knowledge systems in health and wellness will be covered. May not be held with SWRK 2010 or FMLY 3470 when titled Decolonizing Perspectives in Indigenous Health.
